Yet here is something you might not know… As well as the school shows, Hautchella, the Summer Concert, the DP2 art exhibition and participation in the European Student Film Festival, Haut-Lac is also a registered private centre for LAMDA examinations!
Who are LAMDA?
The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art is one of the oldest and most respected drama schools in the UK, boasting some very well-known alumni such as Benedict Cumberbatch, Sam Claflin and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
At school-level, LAMDA have offered practical examinations in Performance and Communication for over 130 years. As such, they have accrued a global reputation for excellence and their qualifications are highly respected.
How does the Haut-Lac LAMDA club work?
Open to students from P3 upwards, this club is run by Sharon Souquet, an acting coach and performer who trained with the Trestle Theatre Company and Paper Birds Theatre Company.
During the year, students develop a range of technical skills in voice, diction and movement to improve their self-confidence and communication. They do so thanks to various drama games, group activities, and pair and individual work. The programme’s diversity and illustrious rewards make it very popular and successful amongst our students!
What can students achieve?
Students also work in small groups to prepare and perform two set scenes to a visiting LAMDA examiner over the summer. From this, they may achieve a LAMDA Graded Examination in Performance (acting) or Communication (Speaking in Public).
As Sharon says, “Haut-Lac […] has a 100% pass rate, and 80% of students even pass with merit or distinction”.
Needless to say, students who feel the call of the stage and the heat of the lights should not hesitate! Spaces fill up fast for this exciting, ambitious club where young performers meet to embark on their creative journeys together.
We are very proud of our young performers, and that is why we offer them every opportunity to develop their skills and succeed. After all, the world without art is no world at all.
