Different, but just as prestigious as the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP), the IB Career-Related Programme (IBCP) is a way of finishing school with valuable industry experience. And at Haut-Lac International Bilingual School, this includes gaining practical experience from the best in art & design, amongst others.
Creative international school students are therefore able to streamline their studies and focus on preparing themselves for a future in the creative industries.
How?
As with our other IBCP options, students specialise in 3 IBDP academic subjects and use the rest of their time to develop their professional skills and participate in service learning as part of the IBCP core. As such, they are prepared for both university and the working world.
That's not all though!
Haut-Lac offers this creative IBCP course in partnership with Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), ‘THE University for Creative Careers’. This means students also attend classes delivered by SCAD via remote learning. Aside from compulsory modules such as drawing and 3D design, they also get to choose from a wide range of optional modules, including fashion and photography! And when they graduate, they are granted direct entry into first year at SCAD universities in the USA or France.
Tell me more
As students build up at least 25 hours of university-level credits throughout this IBCP course in art & design, many graduates stay on at SCAD, go to Pearson or another art college. If they choose to do an undergraduate degree at SCAD, however, they are able to choose from a variety of courses other than art and design.
With visiting tutors such as Vivienne Westwood and Mike Myers, SCAD’s classes are ones students do not want to miss! Of course, SCAD and other arts institutions are only one of the many pathways open to students beyond the IBCP (a subject we explore in these two articles). Whether students are looking to launch themselves straight into a career or hone their craft at a creative university first, there could never be a more fun and exciting offer as this!
Why art & design?
The world is changing for modern students, and therein lies the future. Design thinking, which includes problem-solving and finding creative solutions to tricky questions, is set to become an ever more valuable skill.
Students who can show impressive work experience, an inspired portfolio and commitment to their chosen path, as IBCP graduates can, will be in an enviable position when it comes to looking for their first work placement. Moreover, when the benefits of undertaking the IBCP at Haut-Lac include such formative and unique experiences as this course can offer them, there hardly seems to be a choice make!
