Twenty years after moving to St-Légier, Haut-Lac International Bilingual School has become synonymous with the beautiful village. With its jaw-dropping situation over Lake Geneva, staff and students are treated to a new iteration of the iconic view every day through every season.

However, we were not always to be found nestled in this quiet paradise. Over the years, we have filled many buildings with the laughter and buzz of international school life. Do you remember attending school in any of these old haunts ?

“Come, join me for a stroll through the Haut-Lac grounds.”

“Errr, why? Last I checked, school playgrounds don’t make the best walking routes.”

“Yea, normally, but the Haut-Lac gardens are different. If you can tear yourself away from its breathtaking views of Lake Geneva, you will find them to be an ecological learning haven.”

Accompanied by Helen Cass on Saturday 3 October, several of our Environmental Committee students took part in one of the 12 lake clean-ups that the Association pour la sauvegarde du Léman organises every year. This association hopes to raise awareness about the amount of "invisible" waste at the bottom of the lake, and show everyone that we can work together to preserve the environment around us. It also thoroughly researches the dredged up waste, 90% of which is the result of human activity and not biodegradable. This severely pollutes the aquatic ecosystem, and impacts all living organisms in the lake.

In the midst of this strange time warp we’re living in, you might not have realised that today is Earth Day. And not just any Earth Day - the 50^th anniversary of this special day for environmental awareness. The people behind the movement want to make it known.
